Your Worst Enemy

Your worst enemy in getting organized is procrastination. People who are in over their heads know it at some level, but often have trouble taking the first step. Here's some of the excuses that people use to procrastinate:


  • "I can do this on my own." This excuse is the most tricky because it is partly true. You can do it on your own--eventually. There's a good chance, though, that you're in so deep that you need help: a clutter buddy. Give me a chance and we'll get you unstuck.

  • "I'll just buy a book or a magazine." You're probably smart enough to organize yourself, but once the clutter accumulates, it isn't just a matter of knowledge. You probably need an emotional boost, too. I come in with a positive attitude and a fresh start that will get you moving. Otherwise, that book can sit on your bookshelf with all the other clutter.

  • "The problem is really my husband (or wife/family/whatever)." This may not be true. Even if it is, you probably can't bug or irritate anyone into doing what needs to be done, especially as a spouse or family member. Why not give them the gift of organization? Call me and we'll jump start the situation! It's much easier to help a family member stay organized than get organized.

  • "I can't afford this right now." Professional organization may well cost less than you think. What's more, it's worth every penny. If you could only see the cost of clutter spelled out, you'd realize that you're losing as much of your life as though you were in prison. Get free--get help.
